4 Elements - The Technique of Sensual Rope Bondage by Tati Limati
Imagine yourself in a shibari laboratory—a place dedicated to the exploration of techniques, feelings, sensations, silence, dance, energy, animal instincts, meditation, philosophy, aesthetics, intensity, and discipline... all through the medium of rope.
In this space, you study a variety of techniques designed to open you up and bring more meaning to the dynamics of being gentle or tough. You learn to be mindful of breathing and emotional states, especially your own. The goal is to be as sincere and free as possible in the expression of shibari.
The four elements of shibari—"Air," "Earth," "Fire," and "Water"—are not merely a classification within a body-oriented approach; they also serve as a philosophical foundation that can unlock even greater potential and value within you, inspiring a deeper connection with others. This foundation, built upon years of experience, is presented in a pragmatic form accessible to everyone.
In this introductory workshop we will touch in some of the main techniques that characterize this approach, such as:
Theory of history and philosophy: "4 Elements" with demonstrations of each practice included in Shibari (Aikido, Thai massage, Contact Improv, Qigong, Tantra, BDSM)
Body mechanics of movement and points of influence on the body
Practice of four behavioral techniques for easier improvisation with ropes
"Ichi Nawa": Working with one rope to create a sensual connection with a partner
Different options for predicament ties
Exploring the senses in sensual tying
How to create a story with ropes
Developing empathy

Over the course of 12 years, Tati Limati has not just been training her rope skills, but researched many techniques and practices to integrate in her shibari practice. She combines elements of martial arts, contact improvisation, tantra, qi gong and Thai massage with the purpose of adding depth and sincerity to her own shibari work.
In her teachings, she intends to help participants explore their underlying motivations and add deeper layers to their shibari play. With her techniques she aims to develop an understanding and the use of improvisation, making her students actively establish their own identities in rope play, instead of copying others without questioning.
