Hua Hua: Ipponnawa

Ipponnawa means one rope. Beyond the literal meaning, Ipponnawa is a unique concept in Shibari developed by the late master Yukimura Haruki who heavily included this into his style of tying known as 'Yukimura Ryu'. Ipponnawa has come to represent a method of tying where the primary focus of the play is attention to communication and the connection between both people.Unlike other styles, where we can rely on adding ropes, with one rope there is nothing to distract from seeing the person in your ropes.

There is endless potential when tying with a single rope. In this class we will be exploring the unique qualities of Ipponnawa specifically in paying attention to details on communication, and the interaction between the one tying and the one tied. The exercises will be progressive throughout the class and are designed to help develop communication, body handling and deeper awareness of body language. Through Ipponnawa we can practice how to tie and move by following the reaction of the model and the natural progression, rather than by following set patterns.

This class is a basic introduction to my monthly class series on Ipponnawa taught at Studio Yukari in London
