Moving Bodies, Moving Minds

Moving Bodies, Moving Minds

with Kindred and Amnesia— This is a two day weekend intensive that takes place on April 19th and 20th from 12pm-6pm both days.

Move: go in a specified direction or manner; a change of position, place, or state.

There's no question that rope is a full contact sport. When we tie, we undoubtedly impact the bodies, minds, and hearts of our partners and ourselves. But *how* exactly does that happen? Rope exchanges are often non verbal--how do we know that we're communicating clearly when we're not using our words?

In this workshop, let's get specific about how to speak (and listen) with body language.

On day one, you'll learn the mechanics of movement. We'll explore a creative, easily adaptable sequence that will help you with all of the up-getting, down-going, and side-winding you might want to employ in your scenes.

On day two, you'll deepen your understanding of this technical knowledge by employing it to impact the headspace of your partner. We'll play with how to interpret what we see, and how to speak clearly with no words at all.

Amnesia Jane (they/she)

Hi, I’m Amnesia Jane! I’m a tall, fat, muppety human who’s been doing terrible things with uplines since 2017. I tie, am tied, and self tie, with a particular specialization in dubious suspensions for the sake of science. The word “can’t” makes my brain itchy, which has led me to adopt a creative, pragmatic, and slightly irreverent approach to my practice. I’ve studied rope under Barkas and Addie, and clowning under David MacMurray Smith.

It would be my honour to help you bring your best bad rope ideas to life.

Kindred (he/they)

Kindred is a queer rope switch who’s been practicing bondage since 2016. They enjoy both the technical and connective sides of rope, and attribute much of their growth with rope bondage to their teachers Barkas and Addie and their partner Zenobia.

As a rigger, they combine technical precision, fluidity of movement, and focused observation to tie in a way that centers the emotional experience of the people in their rope. Drawing inspiration from martial arts, psychology and art, they incorporate knowledge from these and related fields into their lessons and practice.

As a teacher, Kindred is non-dogmatic and adaptive. Rather than adhering strictly to any style of tying, they provide students with the skills to pursue any avenues of curiosity. Their training in trauma informed practice and non violent crisis intervention carries through to their teaching and practice, facilitating an environment where people can feel safe to express vulnerabilities and emotions.

Tickets sold as pairs, $480 per tying pair.
$200 deposit, $280 cash at the start of class. $480 total.
