Marriage of Heaven & Hell

Welcome to a rope workshop that explores the range of sensations and why different ends of the spectrum pair together powerfully. We’ll explore and discuss the juxtaposition of pleasure and pain - highlighting what occurs in the brain through these experiences. Marrying together theory/science and rope practices that showcase these principles: this workshop will focus on creating a balance in your scenes and practice that deepens and elevates the sensations you are incorporating.

First we will have a seminar-based discussion on what is happening psychologically and physiologically when we tie. This will include how rope and sensation play affects our bodies and brains in addition to how consent, negotiation, environment, dynamic, mood, etc can influence these reactions. We will focus on how opposite ends of the spectrum can highlight , emphasize, and react with each other.

Post discussion we will demo two floor ties : the first will be a comfortable, cozy, and contained tie that we will pair with sensation play that is physically challenging or “painful” (modifiable based on individual negotiations). The second will be a challenging torture tie that we will pair with sensation play that is pleasurable and gentle. The objective is to experience how pleasure and pain play off each other and create a rope scene that hits all the notes.

PREREQUISITES:

Tops- single and double column, Munter hitch, X frictions. Bottoms- risk awareness/management skills for nerve impingement and foundational knowledge (informed consent, negotiation, aftercare, etc).

About our guest submissivetiger:

submissivetiger is a rope artist, educator, community event organizer and founder of The Rope Collective. She began her rope journey in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2014 as someone being tied by others. Years into being an active member of rope communities, she picked up rope to self tie and developed a specialty for self suspension performance. When she returned to San Diego in 2018 she began tying others and now specializes in both partnered and self suspension performance. Her focus is on modifications in rope for every body, creating liberating experiences and connection with rope, informed consent, negotiation, and aftercare as the medium. Her style is a balance of sensual and primal expression.
